Bangalore seeks Bracken replacement

Bangalore seeks Bracken replacement

19/11/2008 5:40 AM

Indian Premier League side Bangalore Royal Challengers are looking for a replacement for Australia paceman Nathan Bracken, team chief Vijay Mallya has said.

The Royal Challengers, the second most expensive team in the IPL, finished seventh in the inaugural edition of the eight-team Twenty20 tournament earlier this year.

Unhappy with its performance, Mallya is looking to revamp the team and has already handed the coaching reins to Ray Jennings, with the former South Africa coach succeeding New Zealander Martin Crowe.

Let-arm paceman Bracken was bought for $US325,000 ($500,530) at the IPL auction earlier this year but did not play a single match due to a knee injury.

"Bracken has not signed his contract with us," Mallya said.

"This allows us to get an international player in his place. We have begun negotiations with a few players. The process is ongoing."

Mallya insists the Royal Challengers, led by former India captain Rahul Dravid, would perform better this year.

"This year they will perform. You wait and see," he added.
