Broad pleased with fight

Broad pleased with fight

Queensland Bulls opener Ryan Broad has made two centuries in his last two Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield appearances at the WACA, but he took more pleasue out of helping his developing team claim two points.

Broad's 103 against the Warriors helped the Bulls to first innings points, the only two of the match, and it was on the back of his 118 last season in a game Queensland won at the WACA.

Broad certainly enjoys playing in Perth, but was even more satisfied to help his team that was two bowlers down to the first innings points after making 458 in reply to WA's 9-406 (declared).

"I'm very pleased more so for the team because we showed a fair bit of ticker out there over the course of four days. The Warriors are a very good team and to get two points off them is a really good achievement," Broad said.

"It's very satisfying. You are always trying to make a contribution to help your team to get some points or get over the line for a win, and I'm no different to anyone else. I'm satisfied to say the least."

"I love batting here. If you are prepared to bat time you get rewarded I find at the WACA and I've been lucky enough to bat some time the last two times I've been over, and have been lucky enough to get some runs."

The pitch was much slower and without the pace and bounce of Sunday's Ford Ranger Cup wicket that saw Broad trapped in front of his former teammate Ashley Noffke for four.

He certainly found the five days up against Noffke interesting, but batted well against him during his 103 and got some revenge for Noffke taking his wicket on Sunday.

"It was a funny wicket. It seemed to not come through as well as it has in previous years, but having said that it wasn't a bad wicket for batting. It just maybe needed a bit more in it for the bowlers, and they'd be the first to put up their hands to say that I'm sure, and that's about all," he said.

"I found it a little bit hard against Ashley on Sunday, he was bowling beautifully and I couldn't lay bat on most of his deliveries. There was a bit of a contrast there in both wickets and somewhere in the middle might be perfect."

"I get along really well with Ash and it was very interesting to be out there facing him in a first-class game. It's strange not having him on the same team, but at the same time I wish him all the best over here and I'm sure he will have a great year."

With a young team this season, Broad is one of the more experienced Bulls players at 27 with 31 first-class games to his credit. His century was the sixth of his career, but he was proud of the fight shown by the whole team after quick bowlers Ben Laughlin and Grant Sullivan went down injured.

"To lose two quick bowlers on a wicket that is a tough graft was always going to make it hard for us, and from that point on we were realistic enough to know that pushing for six points was going to be tough," he said.

"We tried to do the best we could, which was to get two, and we did that. We try not to use the term rebuilding, we like to think even though we are young and inexperienced, that we have the troops to play well and get results."
