The Deccan Chargers revived their flagging campaign for a semi-final spot in the Indian Premier League with a 53-run win over the Rajasthan Royals at Kimberley.
Rohit Sharma claimed 3-12 runs in three overs and left-arm seamer Chaminda Vaas claimed 2-19 from four as the Royals were bowled out for 113 in 19.2 overs while chasing 167 for victory.
Rajasthan Royals off-spinner Yusuf Pathan had claimed 3-34, but the Chargers still managed a formidable 7-166 after electing to bat first.
The Royals' pursuit of that target was undermined when opener Graeme Smith was adjudged leg before off Vaas for just one and only five runs on board.
One-drop batsman Lee Carseldine was also dismissed cheaply and in bizarre fashion, becoming Vaas' second victim.
Carseldine, who left the safety of the crease, was stumped by fellow Australia Adam Gilchrist after an appeal for caught behind was turned down by the umpire.
Swapnil Asnodkar, dropped on 30 by Tirumalsetti Suman, had kept the Royals in the hunt with a knock off 44, but their hopes were dealt a severe blow when Yusuf Pathan fell cheaply, caught in the deep off left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha.
Asnodkar was then run out in comical circumstances and Rohit claimed three wickets in his first two overs as the Royals crashed from 3-43 to 9-98.
The chase ended with the run out of Munaf Patel to leave Ravindra Jadeja not out on 19.
Earlier, Dwayne Smith had revived Deccan Chargers' innings with a breezy 47 off just 32 deliveries.
The Chargers had lost both openers inside the first six overs, but runs continued to be scored at a fair clip.
The Chargers had clobbered 19 runs in the first three overs - Morne Morkel playing only his second match conceded 16 in two overs with the new ball - when Royals skipper Shane Warne turned to the off-spin off Pathan.
Pathan immediately struck, getting rid of the dangerous Gilchrist for just 10, although replays suggested the leg before decision handed out by umpire Gary Baxter was harsh.
Suman (29 off 19 deliveries), who clubbed Siddharth Trivedi for two fours in his first over, succumbed off the last ball of that over as he holed out in the deep.
Rohit was the third wicket to fall, stumped off the bowling off left arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja as the Chargers crashed to 3-70.
But, Warne had seemed to have left have left his tactical acumen along with his abilities in the dressing room.
Munaf bowled just one over and conceded three runs, but wasn't used again.
Warne brought himself on in the seventh over, but struggled to find the right length and was plundered for runs by Andrew Symonds (30).
Vaas, playing his first match in this year's tournament, smashed 20 useful runs, but the real impetus came from Smith who struck four powerful sixes along the way including one off Warne.
Warne conceded 36 in his four overs, while Trivedi who was persisted with despite the expensive first over, leaked 33 from three.
