South Australia coach Mark Sorell says the cricket world can sometimes demand too much of tearaway quick Shaun Tait.
Tait's fiery and unpredictable approach was on full display in the Ford Ranger Cup game on Sunday with the slinger taking two wickets in two balls during his first spell before being fleeced for 71 runs off his 10 overs.
He also bowled seven wides, five no-balls and hit Theo Doropoulos on the helmet with a bouncer after losing his run-up late in the innings.
Sorell said Tait was an important player in the side but wasn't required to carry the rest of the attack.
"We spread the workload but sometimes there's an expectation he's going to blast sides out. Guys are quality players in this comp and it's never going to be easy to do that," Sorell said on Monday.
"The expectation on Shaun I guess is always high because of what he does and the explosive type of player that he is."
"From our point of view we just want Shaun to do his role which is to come in and bowl fast in short spells."
"I thought he was well supported at different times with Allan Wise last night and Gary Putland, back in the team, did a good job."
Meanwhile Sorell conceded the 25-year-old was better suited to one-day and Twenty20 cricket but was eager to see him continue playing Sheffield Shield.
"We'll pick Shaun when he's raring to go in all of our forms (of cricket)," he said.
"His style of game obviously suits the shorter version when you look at it, short burst bowling, so the main thing for us is to keep Shaun fit and well and get the most of him when he's available to us."
While there was some disappointment in the Redbacks' bowling effort on Sunday, the team is more buoyed about its performance with the bat.
Callum Ferguson struck his first one-day century against the Warriors and became one of numerous South Australian batsmen contributing to the cause this season.
Sorell said it was one of the best one-day innings he'd seen during his time coaching the Redbacks.
"Hopefully that's the spark for Callum to go on to bigger and better things," Sorell said.
"He knows when he gets started he needs to cash in and have a good time like he did last night."
Sorell said the whole batting line-up had given him confidence about the remaining games of the year.
"I'm really pleased with the way those guys have performed in our group which has been good. Obviously other guys around need to keep lifting and performing well too but we've seen a lot from Aaron O'Brien, Michael Klinger and Tom Cooper's debut I thought was excellent too," he said.
"At the moment we are ticking a few boxes so if we keep doing that those points are going to start to come. While everyone talks of rebuilding I'm more about the now for us too, the expectation is to win."
