A damp outfield saw the start of play delayed by an hour on day four of the third Test at Edgbaston on Sunday night.

Play will start at 12pm (9pm AEST) after umpires Rudi Koertzen and Aleem Dar were satisfied the ground was fit for play.

There had been concerns with the dampness of the field following heavy rain on Saturday which saw play on day three abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Conditions are overcast but fine on Sunday and no rain has been forecast.

England will resume on 2-116, still trailing Australia's first innings total of 263 by 147 runs.

Andrew Strauss is unbeaten 64 and Ian Bell on 26.

A draw is considered the most likely outcome after less than four of a possible nine sessions of play was completed on the first three days.
