New South Wales all-rounder Moises Henriques will rush back to India, just a day after returning home from there, after being called up to the Australian squad as cover following injuries to James Hopes, Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson.
Most concern surrounds Queensland all-rounder Hopes who is set to miss at least the second and third games of the series after suffering a hamstring strain during India's innings in Vadodara on Sunday as Australia won the series opener.
But selectors also have worries about fast bowlers Lee (elbow) and Johnson (ankle), who were also injured during the match and will miss game two in Nagpur, leading them to call on Henriques just 24 hours after he'd returned from the subcontinent following the Blues' Champions League Twenty20 title win.
"Our medical staff have now decided that while both Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson's injuries have responded well to treatment, they will be severe enough to rule them out of contention for tomorrow's (Wednesday's) match in Nagpur," said chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch.
"With James Hopes' right hamstring injury being more serious and likely keep him out for at least the next two matches it is thought adding a standby player to the squad is a necessity."
"Given the most significant injury appears to be Hopes' hamstring we have taken this opportunity to add Moises Henriques to the squad until the completion of game four in Mohali where we will again assess the situation before it is decided if he remains with the squad."
"While the injury situation is disappointing it does provide an opportunity for Moises to join the Australian squad and become familiar in this environment."
"His form for Australia A in Pakistan and for New South Wales during the recent Champions League in India has been very good and we view him as an exciting young all-rounder who will be looking to make the most of this opportunity in India."
Henriques wasn't too concerned about racking up the the frequent flyer points on a another long-haul flight to India.
"I'm stoked to be involved," he told Sportal
"I've got no hesitation heading back to India so soon, especially for something this big."
"I'm basically on standby - I'm not sure if I'll be needed - but I will prepare as if I'm going to play, if that doesn't happen then so be it, but I'm just over the moon to be part of the squad."
"It was an amazing thing to be part of (NSW's Champions League victory) and this just caps it off."
After departing Sydney on Tuesday evening and arriving in Delhi on Wednesday Henriques will link up with the Australian squad there the following day, making him available for Saturday's third game at the city's Feroz Shah Kotla ground.
