Left-arm quick Mitchell Johnson has been called up to replace Ryan Harris in Australia's 13-man squad for the remaining three ODIs against South Africa.
Johnson, who did not take part in the two KFC Twenty20 Internationals or the first two Commonwealth Bank Series matches, is the only addition to Australia’s squad that is currently locked 1-1 in its series against South Africa.
Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said Johnson's return to action after being rested following a gruelling Test series against the Proteas is unfortunate for Harris who took 1-54 on debut against South Africa in Hobart on Sunday.
"From a positive point of view for Ryan, we have been very impressed with his efforts and attitude during limited opportunities and we are certain he will continue to push for Australian selection in the future," said Hilditch.
Meanwhile Cricket Australia, the selectors and Australian team coaching staff have determined that no players in the national squad will be released to play in either the preliminary final or the final of the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash.
Queensland hosts Victoria in the preliminary final on Wednesday with the winner to contest the final against New South Wales on Saturday night.
Australia plays South Africa in the third Commonwealth Bank Series match in Sydney on Friday and then in Adelaide the following Monday which is a sell-out.
The players affected are Queensland's sole national squad member James Hopes, Bushrangers Cameron White and David Hussey, and Blues Nathan Bracken, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz and David Warner.
Cricket Australia Acting Chief Executive Officer, Michael Brown said it was agreed the players' sole focus needs to be on their preparation and performance in Australian colours.
Michael Hussey will assume vice-captaincy of the Australian squad for the remainder of the South African series while Michael Clarke continues his recovery from a thumb injury.
