Veteran paceman Brett Lee all but secured a place in Australia's Test side after unleashing a devastating spell of reverse-swing bowling against the England Lions at Worcester.
In just over an hour of power either side of tea, Lee claimed 5-21 in 40 balls to not only turn the tour match on its head but also silence critics who had written him off in recent months.
The Lions had been cruising thanks to a 172-run opening stand between centurion Stephen Moore and Joe Denly but had no answer to Lee's fiendish brand of reverse swing.
At stumps on the second day, the Lions were 6-302, still trailing by 56 the Australians' first-innings total of 358.
Lee's spell masked Australia's worrying trend of failing to break through regularly with the new ball, and an inauspicious day out for pace spearhead Mitchell Johnson.
Clocked consistently bowling in the 150kmh range, Lee, who found an antidote for his no-ball habit, struck with consecutive deliveries four overs prior to tea.
He bowled Denly through the gate for 66 then greeted Ian Bell to the crease with a ball which tailed late onto his pads.
Even the most settled of batsmen would have had trouble playing that ball let alone one who had been padded up in the dressing room for more than three hours.
Solanki survived the hat-trick ball, French-cutting a 151kmh yorker for four, but when on eight had no answer for one which clattered onto his stumps via his pads.
Lee struck twice in his following over, inducing a false hook shot from Moore on 120 before trapping the left-handed Eoin Morgan in front with a swinging yorker.
His only fault was failing to break through with the new ball for the third time on tour, but on this occasion there were mitigating circumstances.
He was unlucky not to have a huge lbw shout against Moore upheld with his first ball and came close to getting the same batsman to play onto his stumps.
As Lee played himself into the Test side, finishing the day with 5-53, Johnson's first-class debut in England turned awry.
Bowling in a match for the first time in 24 days, Johnson showed he was in need of a gallop.
Although he managed to beat the bat of both openers, he was unable to swing the ball when it was new or old.
He was the same bowler in name only to the one which terrorised Graeme Smith's hands and his South African team-mates earlier this year.
From three fruitless spells, he returned the expensive analysis of 0-101 from 20 overs.
As Hauritz found out last week, such figures can have eyebrows furrowed but in Johnson's case it will be blamed on rustiness.
Hauritz has no such luxury. He came off a clear second best against Moore, who hit him for sixes in consecutive overs and was intent on getting down the wicket to him.
His only two pieces of encouragement were a miscued loft which fell inches from Michael Hussey at long-off and an lbw appeal which was turned down but strangely received little voice from anyone other than the bowler.
Again, he was outshone by a part-timer, this time Marcus North, who removed wicketkeeper Steve Davies late in the day for 53.
Stuart Clark, Hauritz's major rival for the last bowling berth in Cardiff, was also wicketless but did not allow the Lions to attack from his end.
