Ashley Noffke has one thing on his mind on the eve of Australia's tour to the West Indies, and that's finding a way of sneaking into the star-studded Test line-up.
Noffke has been on the cusp of Test selection before, having toured England in 2001 and the Caribbean in 2003, and he made his national debut in the shorter forms of the game last year, but still the baggy green has so far eluded him.
When asked in Brisbane about what he was looking to get out of the West Indies tour, Noffke's answer was blunt.
"Obviously I'd love to play a game, but that's out of my control a little bit," Noffke said with a chuckle.
"It'll be good to go back and see the conditions…really looking forward to the challenge, can be batter friendly conditions, so it'll be a good challenge as a bowler."
With Brett Lee, Stuart Clark and Mitchell Johnson all seemingly having nailed down their respective spots, Noffke admitted that his chances of taking the field were not fantastic.
"It can become fairly difficult in a set tour like this, there's only really one tour game right at the start," Noffke said.
"Originally you go into every tour hoping to play and preparing to play…outside of that, let the other guys who make the decisions let you know."
Noffke is coming off a stellar first class season with Queensland where he collected 51 wickets and scored 741 runs, becoming only the third Australian ever to pocket the 50 wicket, 500 run double.
Noffke has always been a well-regarded bowler and is now hoping the Australian hierarchy views him as a genuine all-rounder.
"I hope I give that option, I think my first class statistics last year prove that, but whether or not their perception of me is the same, I don't know," he said.
"I haven't really had any sit down chats yet, but I'll have the time to do that, I hope I provide some different options for the team."
The 31-year old said his selection in the squad was a satisfying reward for hard work.
"There's nothing more pleasing to see your name amongst the guys that I'm traveling with and to say the reason why I'm there is because of top quality performances for Queensland," Noffke said.
"I feel like I've really been reborn in terms of a player, especially with my batting performances."
