Onions in for Flintoff

Onions in for Flintoff

08/09/2009 7:37 AM

Durham fast bowler Graham Onions has replaced injured all-rounder Andrew Flintoff in England's Champions Trophy squad.

Onions takes Flintoff's place in the 15-man party for the tournament in South Africa, and will also provide bowling cover for the remainder of the one-day series against Australia.

Onions, 27 this coming Wednesday, joins up with the one-day squad in Southampton on Tuesday ahead of the third match of seven.

Flintoff has incurred a deep vein thrombosis in his right calf following knee surgery.

Flintoff, 31, underwent an operation upon the conclusion of the Ashes and is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of six months.
