Western Australia has suspended batsman Luke Pomersbach from pre-season training until at least Friday when he'll face charges relating to several incidents, including one involving police, on Sunday night.
The 24-year-old has been charged with assaulting and obstructing police, escaping police custody, driving with a blood alcohol content in excess of .08, failing to accompany police and failing to stop.
Pomersbach, who played a Twenty20 international for Australia in December 2007, was allegedly involved in two separate accidents within 15 minutes on Sunday night and left the scene of both.
The first occurred at approximately 9:30pm at City Beach when he reportedly hit a car before he also later hit a packed skip bin, forcing it four metres into the pergola of a house nearby.
Police then tracked Pomersbach to his home courtesy of an oil trail left behind and arrested him but the left-handed batsman struggled with the officers and one was pushed backwards through a window in his house.
Having escaped from police Pomersbach was then found in nearby sand dunes after police used a sniffer dog to track him down and he'll face the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.
"The Western Australian Cricket Association has been made aware of a serious traffic incident involving Warriors batsman Luke Pomersbach last night in Perth's western suburbs," WACA chief Graeme Wood said in a statement.
"The matter will be heard in the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday. Until then, Luke has been suspended from all pre-season training commitments with the Warriors. No other Warriors player was involved in this incident."
"The WACA, along with the Australian Cricketers Association (ACA), will continue to provide the necessary support and welfare to Luke. The WACA will not be making any further comment on this issue until after Friday’s hearing."
Pomersbach hit one six and scored 15 runs from seven balls when - having gone to the ground as a spectator - he was drafted into the Australian Twenty20 team that faced New Zealand at the WACA Ground in late 2007.
While he has performed well at times on the field for the Warriors, particularly in limited overs matches, Pomersbach has also been involved in a couple of incidents away from the pitch, twice punished by the WACA for incidents involving alcohol.
