South Australia's improved performances in the Sheffield Shield and Ford Ranger Cup have earned coach Mark Sorell a one-year extension to his contract with the Redbacks.
SACA High Performance Manager Jamie Cox said Sorell deserved the deal given the positive signs seen out on the field this summer.
"We are delighted with how the team is progressing and think we are making forward steps and we see this as further good news which will hopefully continue those forward steps," Cox said.
"Mark is fully aware if things keep advancing then things take care of themselves anyway – it's a term we are all comfortable with."
"We'd like to think we've provided some security for Mark and a real vote of confidence."
Cox said Sorell had also improved player management behind the scenes.
"He's well organised, he certainly seems to have the guys playing for him, they certainly enjoy playing beneath him. He's a good communicator and he's taken on the selection role very well and communicated openly and honestly whether it's good or bad fortunes," he said.
"Given that I think we've been on an upward trend probably during his time in the job and he certainly deserves a bit longer to ensure that continues."
Sorell, who was appointed coach in 2007, said the contract extension was 'positive news'.
"It gives me confidence in where we are going and I think some stability in what we are doing which is important for the group," he said.
Redbacks captain Graham Manou agreed.
"It's a fantastic Christmas present and it's a vote in confidence in us as players, working under Mark and the rest of the coaching staff, obviously they see improvements with what Mark is doing and in our performances as well," he said.
"The guys were pretty happy with the announcement when they got told yesterday in the changerooms."
Contracts aside, the Redbacks are now looking forward to improving their efforts in the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash.
Cox said the side was pleased Pakistan recruit and Twenty20 specialist Sohail Tanvir was still available for the opening clash.
"It is relief he's coming, he's not quite on the plane yet, but he won't be far away and at this stage he'll be here for the 28th," he said.
