Steyn leads the way

Dale Steyn produced a devastating display with the ball as South Africa claimed a 61-run victory in the first one-day international against Bangladesh.

The quick finished with figures of four for 16 as South Africa dismissed the tourists for 222, despite the best efforts of Mohammad Ashraful and Shakib Al Hasan, who made 73 and 51 respectively.

Jacques Kallis had earlier scored a half-century to set South Africa on the way to a total of eight for 283.

Albie Morkel and Morne Morkel also took five wickets between them for the Proteas as Tamim Iqbal (24) and Naeem Islam (25no) were the only other Bangladesh players to reach double figures.

South Africa had no such problems earlier on and its dominance with the bat could have been even greater, but for some fine fielding from the tourists and the bowling of Naeem.

He took three for 60 off his ten overs, including the all-important wicket of Kallis for 50, tempting the all-rounder to launch over deep midwicket and into the hands of a leaping Tamim Iqbal on the boundary.

AB De Villiers, who hit an almost identical shot, also fell to Naeem, this time caught by Imrul Kayes.

The pair had steadied the ship after the loss Hashim Amla (35) and Justin Ontong (27).

Mark Boucher only added eight before he was scuppered by a great catch from Islam off Mashrafe Mortaza.

Jean-Paul Duminy followed for 36 in the 44th over when he was trapped lbw by Al Hasan and Johan Botha hit a quickfire 23 before sweeping Islam over square leg to Razzak, leaving Albie Morkel (32 not out) and Johann Louw (23) to rack up the runs late on.

Steyn made an immediate impact after Bangladesh took to the middle.

He removed Imrul Kayes, caught by Amla for one, and Junaid Siddique lbw for two, before Iqbal and Ashraful combined to bolster Bangladesh hopes.

But Iqbal was run out and his replacement Mushfiqur Rahim followed the next over, having been dismissed caught and bowled by Morne Morkel to leave Bangladesh struggling on four for 77.

Ashraful and Shakib, though, put on a fifth-wicket stand of 92 to bring the tourists right back into the match before Ashraful departed, caught behind off Steyn.

That wicket broke Bangladesh's resolve as Raqibul Hasan, Steyn's final victim Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib were sent back to the pavilion soon after.

Albie and Morne Morkel wrapped up the Bangladesh innings despite Naeem's late rally.
