Day-one centurion Wes Robinson has offered no apologies after dragging his team-mates away from the box as the Melbourne Cup field rounded the final turn at Flemington.
The 28-year-old moved into the nineties as the field jumped at Flemington and struck another boundary two balls later to move to 96, forcing the entire Warriors squad to abandon the big screen in the visitors' dressing room and turn their attention to the centre of the SCG.
Robinson didn't disappoint reaching his milestone from the very next delivery, but it was too late for his team-mates who were left to rely on replays to learn of Shocking's victory in the Great Race.
Asked if he was aware of his poor timing, the damaging left hander, who for the record had Viewed and Changingoftheguard in the team sweep, showed no remorse:
"Brett Dorey actually notified me as we were sitting here watching Ronch (Luke Ronchi) and Droppa (Theo Doropoulos) bat that it was about 200 metres to go when I brought it up, so they actually got to come back out (from the rooms) and they missed the end which was unlucky for them," he said with a laugh.
Robinson's impressive 141 has left the visitors strongly placed at 5-371 at stumps on day one of the Sheffield Shield clash against New South Wales.
But the self-confessed late bloomer was reluctant to take all the credit.
"It was a great day for WA," he enthused.
"Finally we showed what we can do as a batting unit. We sat down first thing this morning really and made a conscious effort to try and bat out the day and bat to our strength individually and it came off which is great."
"So hopefully Droppa and Ronch can get back in and really see us towards 500 (in the morning) ... 500 would be minimum I would have thought."
Meanwhile, rookie Blues paceman Mitchell Starc suffered a side strain late in the day and is unlikely to take any part on day two.
