Carlton defender Shaun Grigg has won this week's nomination for the NAB AFL Rising Star Award.
Grigg, secured with pick 19 in the 2006 AFL Draft, is Carlton's second nomination for the award following Matthew Kreuzer in Round 11.
After playing five matches in his debut season last year, Grigg, 20, has only missed two games in 2008.
He sealed his nomination with a 25-possession haul against Port Adelaide last Saturday. Significantly, it was the fourth time the young Blue had gathered more than 20 touches in a game.
Carlton coach Brett Ratten said Grigg, who recently penned a new two-year deal with the Blues, was an important player to the club's future.
"This is well-deserved recognition for the development in Shaun's game, particularly this season. He has provided pace and some of his work around the stoppages on Saturday was very good," Ratten said.
