It's a sign of just how much talent Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson has at his disposal right now that more than just a few members of the side that destroyed Melbourne by 104 points last week will be sweating on keeping their place in the side for this week's trip to Fremantle.
The Hawks are in the luxurious position of having to find room for both vice-captain Luke Hodge and star defender Campbell Brown this week as the key pair return from suspension.
While the loss of veteran defender Trent Croad for at least a month with a broken wrist opens up one place that means one unlucky player from last week is still likely to be dropped from what was virtually a faultless display.
No-one realises that more than Michael Osborne, who only came into the side as a last minute replacement last week for the injured Mark Williams.
The 25-year-old, who has found himself in and out of the Hawks' side over the years having played just 77 games since debuting in Round 1 2001, certainly made the most of his opportunity with 25 possessions and three goals against the Demons to sum up the depth of talent the Hawks currently have their disposal.
It is the kind of competition for places that all clubs dream of having and Osborne for one knows no-one's place in the Hawks' side is certain at the moment.
"I hope so, I don't know if there will be any changes and maybe Hodgey will have to do something special to get into the team this week," Osborne joked when asked whether he will keep his place in the side this week given the amount of talent the Hawks have to pick from.
However, Osborne told Sportal that such competition for senior spots was vital if the Hawks are to turn the potential they showed last year - in making the finals for the first time since 2001 - into a team good enough to challenge for the premiership.
"We've still got a couple of our guns to come back over the next couple of weeks (with Shane Crawford and Jordan Lewis both still out suspended) and this year we have finally got a bit of depth which we have been working on in the last couple of seasons," he said.
"It's a good attribute for the team to have now and all the past premiership teams over the last ten years have had good depth and few injuries during the season."
"And that is what it takes to play consistent footy during the season."
