Port Adelaide's new-look line-up continues to evolve with Marlon Motlop set to debut and the club launching a one-off guernsey for its clash against Melbourne at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.
The 18-year-old is the cousin of Power forward Daniel Motlop and is the sixth Power debutant this season. He was taken at pick 28 of last year's draft.
Motlop's family ties ensured he received plenty of publicity when he joined the club but he's had to bide his time in the SANFL while others have been given opportunities.
The former Northern Territory player said he was pleased to finally get a chance to join his young team-mates at league level.
"As much as it is frustrating, it's good to see your mates getting a crack and showing what they are made of. My time is now and I'm just thankful the club has given me the chance and the opportunity to make my debut," he said.
For most of the season Motlop has found himself languishing in North Adelaide's reserves side in the SANFL. But with improved consistency, strength and club support, he believes he's ready to make an impact with the Power.
"They are confident in my ability. They said my running in the reserves is to AFL standards. It's going to be a lot different in the pace but the physical side of the game will be pretty much similar," he said.
"But we've watched Nick Salter and Matty Westhoff do it in the past couple of weeks (come from the SANFL reserves to AFL) so I'm confident I can adjust to that level soon."
Power coach Mark Williams alerted Motlop of his upcoming selection by phone call on Wednesday night. It was a moment he shared with his team-mate cousin who will also return to the side after taking a week off with an abductor strain.
Motlop said he was excited about playing with Daniel as the pair are friends as well as cousins.
"I go around to his house and he comes around to mine for dinner about three or four times a week and we hang out and go see a movie every now and then so we are pretty tight," he said.
"I've watched Daniel pretty much all my life since he was playing his footy in Darwin and through the Kangaroos and also with the Power now so I pretty much know what he does and how he plays and know his role in the side."
"I think me and him have a pretty good understanding of each other."
Marlon's selection in the side was announced at the Power's guernsey launch at an Adelaide private school on Thursday.
The guernsey is a result of a year-long design competition run by the Power's Planet Teal junior program in South Australian schools. There were more than 5,000 entries in the competition.
The winner was 10-year-old Marlon Shepherdson from Rostrevor College who was presented with the first jumper and got to meet the Motlop cousins.
