No sympathy on interchange rule

bench.

Do we really want to see the AFL heading down the path of American Football where half the team is replaced every five minutes?

Instead why not go down the path of soccer - the world's number one sport - which does not allow players to be replaced once they have come off the ground.

So instead of having just four players on the bench but rotating them on and off the field every five minutes - teams could instead have six or eight players on the bench but once a player is replaced he cannot not go back on.

That would certainly put an end to the current problems.

So the clubs should be mindful that it could always be worse for them in terms of the interchange but in this current debate never forget that the clubs have only bought this latest problem on themselves by abusing the principles of the interchange bench in the first place.
