Fremantle captain Matthew Pavlich claimed his fifth best and fairest award in Perth on Saturday night.
In a closer-than-expected count, Pavlich polled 30 votes to win by three from ruckman Aaron Sandilands and defender Luke McPharlin.
NAB Rising Star winner Rhys Palmer finished fourth on 23 votes in his first season of AFL football, two clear of tagger Ryan Crowley and versatile backman Michael Johnson, who shared fifth position.
Pavlich, who has copped plenty of criticism for a player of his standing, had another stellar year for the Dockers.
In a season which saw him named All Australian for a sixth time, Pavlich led the club's goalkicking with 67 goals and ranked in the top five for kicks, marks, entries inside 50 and hard ball gets despite missing three matches late in the year.
Sandilands, an All Australian this season, created a club record of 646 hitouts this season but belied his 211cm to finish in the top five for hard ball gets, clearances and handballs.
McPharlin played at both ends of the ground, kicking 21 goals including a five-goal bag against West Coast in Round 18.
Votes were given by the club's match committee on a four-three-two-one based on performances which were deemed outstanding, excellent, very good or good.
