Shattered Hawks learn from loss

Hawthorn veteran Shane Crawford says the club is shattered but can learn from Sunday's loss to Port Adelaide in Launceston.
The Hawks conceded two goals in the final minute - including one from Brett Ebert with only two seconds remaining - to throw away a seven-point lead and allow the Power to snare the unlikeliest of victories.
It was a result which may prove the difference between a home final and double chance or a cut-throat elimination final in the first week of the post-season, given the win lifted Port to second and left the Hawks sitting fourth among three teams on 12 wins with two rounds left.
Crawford said on Monday the players were devastated by the result.
"They just kept working at it and we unfortunately just cracked a little bit," the 1999 Brownlow medallist said on Monday.
"We had an opportunity to close it out and we didn't and the thing about AFL football, you've got to take your chances. If you don't it can come back to bite you on the backside."
"It was very shattering"
"It was a game where as we walked off, I've never seen the guys so down on themselves."
But the 32-year-old Crawford said there was little time to waste wondering what might have been, given they have another important match against the Western Bulldogs on Sunday and still control their own destiny regarding the finals.
"That's a great situation to be in. All is not lost ... as long we learn and don't get too down on ourselves," Crawford said.
"It's much better going through that type of situation now than doing it during the finals when you might not have another opportunity."
Luke Hodge suffered a corked hip in the game but Crawford said his team-mate was moving around OK on Monday and should be fine to play.
Crawford also said skipper Richard Vandenberg had been training well and was a chance to come back into the team.
