Bangladesh no match for Aussies

A dominant bowling performance by Australia has seen them record an easy 180-run victory over Bangladesh in Saturday's first one-day international at Darwin's TIO Stadium.

The tourists never threatened Australia's total of 255, eventually being bowled out for 74 in the 27th over with only three batters reaching double figures.

Mitchell Johnson did the damage, first dismissing opener and top-scorer Tamim Iqbal for 21 and then catching Mohammad Ashraful leg before in the 10th over to finish with the impressive figures of 2-10 from his six overs.

Debutant Brett Geeves also chimed in with two wickets from his five overs, while Cameron White cleaned up the tail with the final three wickets.

Stuart Clark got the ball rolling for the Aussies, dismissing opener Mehrab Hossain jnr for a duck in just the third over.

A rapid-fire 85 from Mike Hussey propelled Australia to 8-254 from its 50 overs.

After a conservative start from the home side, the Australian vice-captain combined with Shaun Marsh (76) and brother David Hussey (24) to steer the hosts to a competitive total.

Mike Hussey was at his dynamic best, using his trademark power and finesse to excellent effect against the Bangladesh bowlers, with his knock coming off just 87 deliveries.

Stand-in skipper Michael Clarke was pleased with the performance.

"I thought Shaun Marsh again with the bat was spot on, Michael Hussey led from the front as vice-captain and then our bowlers and in the field, I think certainly showed great energy and a fantastic performance," Clarke said.

"It's obviously a great honour for me to have this opportunity but when you've got guys in your team like I have, it makes my life so much easier."

"I've got the backing of every player there, they performed as well as I could have asked today, so it made my job so much easier."

Hussey was dismissed on the last ball of the innings attempting a big hit over mid-off, with Shahadat Hossain reaping the benefits.

Hossain, who was smashed around early with 24 runs coming off his first two overs, fought back gamely to finish with the figures of 3-42 off six overs.

Marsh looked comfortable as he continued his fine introduction to international cricket, providing the anchor role for Australia and combining with Hussey for an 85-run third-wicket partnership before being bowled by Abdur Razzak in the 36th over.

The Hussey brothers kept the scoreboard ticking over, David smashing his 24 off 22 deliveries - including one massive six over the boundary at long-off before falling the very next ball caught by Mashrafe Mortaza from the bowling of Shakib Al Hasan (2-46).

Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin (three) and Cameron White (nine) kept the strike ticking over as Mike Hussey continued on his merry way.

Mortaza was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers with 0-31 off his 10 overs.

Earlier, Australia raced to 30 from the first four overs as the batsman took a liking to Shahadat Hossain, who lasted just two overs in his opening spell, with 11 runs coming from a first over that included five no balls and four leg byes, and 13 from his second.

Nazmul Hossain's introduction alongside Mortaza helped slow the run rate, with Mortaza's first five overs including a maiden and costing just 12 runs and Nazmul also chipping in with a maiden as Australia's 50 came up in the 11th over.
