Australian rising star Mitchell Johnson has been released by the Queensland Bulls to play with Western Australia.
Johnson moved to the WA capital earlier this month to be closer to his Perth-based partner Jessica Bratich but initially planned on still playing for Queensland when he had the chance.
However, after a meeting with Bulls coach Trevor Barsby on Thursday, it was decided that it would be better for all parties involved if Johnson made a permanent move to WA and began representing the Warriors.
"It became apparent this week that as much as both of us would like this situation to work, it was going to be become increasingly challenging for all of us," Queensland Cricket CEO Graham Dixon said.
"Mitch and I and Trevor had a good chat about things yesterday (Thursday) and we've taken the decision to release Mitch to WA."
"This will mean that Mitchell and his partner Jess can complete their move to their new home and give him the chance to get back into training as soon as he is required to by Cricket Australia."
Johnson, who has played nine Tests, 39 one-day internationals and eight Twenty20 internationals for Australia, was appreciative of Queensland Cricket's decision.
"Everyone has been very understanding and supportive and Jess and I thank them deeply," he said.
"Obviously this hasn't been an easy decision to make and I will leave with some regrets, but also with plenty of fond memories."
WACA CEO Graeme Wood was delighted with the addition of Johnson to the Warriors squad.
"We are thrilled to have secured the services of one of the country's most talented young fast bowlers," Wood said.
"We may not see him regularly in WA colours because we expect him to have international commitments, but when he is around the squad he will provide outstanding leadership to the young Warriors pace bowlers."
Johnson played seven seasons with Queensland and was a member of the 2005-06 Pura Cup-winning team.
