Lee confirms marriage split

Lee confirms marriage split

21/08/2008 4:51 PM

Australian pace bowler Brett Lee has confirmed that his absence from the three-match one-day series against Bangladesh in Darwin has been caused by the break-up of his marriage.

"We have been caught by surprise as to how quickly our situation has become public," said Lee on Thursday.

"It is with regret that I confirm today's media reports are correct and that Liz and I have decided to separate."

"Given the personal nature of the matter I ask that you please respect our privacy as we attempt to deal with this sensitive situation," he said.

Lee's place in the squad has been taken by Tasmanian quick Brett Geeves, who has yet to make his international debut.

Geeves claimed man of the match honours in the final of last season's domestic one-day competition.
