Warriors skipper Marcus North is looking to put last summer behind him as he prepares to lead his side out against New South Wales in the first Ford Ranger Cup clash of the summer on Wednesday.
North only managed four matches last season after succumbing to a degenerative knee condition that flared up just before summer began.
But, this time around he's hoping to contribute more to a developing Western Australian squad that's missing the retired Justin Langer and Brad Hogg, along with departed opener Chris Rogers, who moved to Victoria.
And, although North knows replacing that experience will be difficult, he believes the Warriors have the talent to challenge for silverware this summer - as long as they reduce the gap between their best and worst performances.
"Without a doubt, Justin is a huge loss as a leader and as runs and Chris Rogers going to Victoria, it's going to be hard to replace his runs," said North.
"(But) we've (coach Tom Moody and I) talked about the quality of the squad and we showed glimpses of that last year, we were just a little bit inconsistent."
"So another area that we'll work on is consistency and if we do that, we play as well as we know we can play ... then that will give us an opportunity of bringing some silverware back to WA."
North, fresh from a winter at English County club Gloucertershire, believes he can also take on his full leadership role this time around.
"Last year was pretty hard for me to take at the start of the year," he said. "It was a great honour to get the captaincy of WA but (disappointing) not be able to fulfill it from the start."
"So to do that this year is very exciting and I can't wait for Wednesday to come around."
Moody, in his second year at the Warriors, is also looking forward to a season where his side will be challenging for the three Australian trophies as well as the Champions League Twenty20 title.
"We can't wait to really get into the thick of the competition now," said Moody, who also coached Punjab to the Indian Premier League semi-finals during May.
"I think the depth (in our squad) is better than it has been and that's just the hard work that's been invested in that depth, it's starting to bear fruit."
"The likes of your Shaun Marsh's, your Luke Pomersbachs, those type of cricketers are at a different level now."
"They came into last season as guys that were potentially good first class cricketers, they're going into this season as potentially good international cricketers, so there's a significant difference."
"(So this season) is an opportunity for a new crop of cricketers to come through and stamp their authority in the competition and they have got the potential not only to form as a team but be a very successful team."
