Victorian captain Cameron White will join Australia's Tour of India as a replacement player for the injured Bryce McGain.

White has just returned from India where he captained the Australia A one-day team to a tournament victory.

Despite being a noted batsman, selectors feel that his leg spinners and experience in Indian conditions can be help the Australian team.

"We feel that it is the correct option and he will provide a good balance to our slow bowling attack," Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said.

"Cameron's bowling has continued to improve over the past year at interstate level and his powerful batting adds extra depth and versatility to the squad.

"Cameron has performed well in Australian colours since his return to the one-day international squad earlier this year and he has now been rewarded with inclusion in the Test squad."

White has played in 152 one-day internationals for Australia, but has yet to earn a Test cap.

White will meet the Australian squad in Bangalore on Monday ahead of the first Test starting on Thursday.
