Colosimo on track for Sydney

03/12/2008 12:44 PM

Star Sydney FC off-season signing Simon Colosimo is nearing his return to the A-League.

Sydney pulled off a coup by signing Colosimo from Perth Glory at the start of the year, but the talented midfielder has managed just two appearances for his new club, with a groin injury keeping the 29-year-old on the sidelines for the majority of the season.

But Colosimo has been working hard to ensure his rehab is successful and is looking at returning to the Sydney FC side within the next three to four weeks.

"The recovery has been pretty good," said Colosimo.

"It's a long process, but the plan all along has been to come back permanently with little chance of breaking down again."

"I've just begun doing some passing training and hope to be back training with the squad in a couple of weeks' time. I'm not going to risk coming back early though."

Sydney currently sits in sixth place on the A-League table, but Colosimo is confident that his team will be able to find some form during the remainder of the season and be peaking right in time for the finals.

"I think the boys have always had the belief we can continue to the finals," he said.

"We are not that far behind and are not taking beatings. A little bit of a turn in our luck and we will be at the pointy end of the table."

"A couple of balls have bounced the wrong way but the team spirit and belief is still there, as they showed in the second half on Friday night (against Queensland). That half may be a turning point for us."
