Sydney FC fans are going to have to wait a little longer before getting a glimpse of new recruits Mark Bridge and Stuart Musialik in the light blue guernsey.
The pair, who crossed over to the harbour city from premiers Newcastle at the end of the last A-League season, will both be representing Australia at the Olympics next month - delaying their respective debut appearances for Sydney in the process.
And the former Jets couldn't be happier with their selection in the Olyroos squad, especially Musiliak who didn't give himself much of a chance of making the final cut.
"For a little while there I did think that I could have stuffed it up for myself," admitted Musiliak.
"You know what I mean? Or made it very difficult for myself so I suppose at the end of the day the main feeling is relief."
While Bridge was always expected to fly to Beijing, he said the experience will be made all the more memorable now that his good mate will join him.
"Yeah me and Stuey have sort of gone through under 20s, Newcastle and the under 23s together," said Bridge
"So we sort of know each other's game inside out which is always a good thing for both the Aussie team and Sydney, so yeah looking forward to it."
Meanwhile, Perth Glory trio Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Tando Velaphi and Nikita Rukavytsya will join Bridge and Musialik at the Olympics and all three are rapt to be part of the biggest sporting event on the planet.
"Australia is my home now and I consider myself an Australian. I'm very proud to represent Australia at the Olympics." Ukrainian-born Rukavytsya said.
"It has come pretty quickly and my parents were really thrilled. They were crying with happiness and couldn't really talk when I told them."
"They were really happy for me and I'm really happy as well."
Velaphi said of his selection: "I was very excited when I was told and I think it's something that every athlete aspires to achieve."
"Not many people can say they're an Olympian so I'm very proud to be representing Australia and really excited about being part of the team which I'm sure will do well."
Topor-Stanley echoed the sentiments of his Glory team-mates.
"It has been a big year with not much down time but this is something I love doing and to receive official confirmation that I'm going to be an Olympian is the icing on the cake," he said.
"We'll definitely take some confidence into our matches and if the squad can stay injury-free and play to our potential then knows where we can go."
