A Devil of a decision

Trainer Mark Kavanagh will wait until later this week before deciding whether in-form mare Devil Moon has a tilt at this year's BMW Caulfield Cup.
The four-year-old mare was an impressive winner of the Group Two Stocks Stakes (1600m) last Saturday at Moonee Valley after being trapped three and four-wide without cover for much of the race.
That win came just seven days after she saluted in the Let's Elope Stakes (1400m) at Group Three level at Flemington.
While her price for the BMW Caulfield Cup has been wound in to as low as $12 (Sportingbet Australia) after odds of in excess of $51 were offered prior to last Saturday, Kavanagh told Sportal he may skip the race with Devil Moon.
That would allow connections to chase more black-type wins against other mares, thus increasing her value as a broodmare.
"There's two ways we can go. We can go that way or wait and keep her in mares races or shorter distances," Kavanagh said.
"There's some doubt about her over 2400 so at this stage I haven't made up my mind whether she will contest the Caulfield Cup or not. I'll be making a decision on that later in the week."
Devil Moon is untried at 2400m but at her only start at 2000m ran third in the Australasian Oaks, 1.6 lengths behind winner Anamato - who subsequently placed in the Group One American Oaks in Los Angeles.
Devil Moon, currently equal 40th in the latest elimination order for the BMW Caulfield Cup, is not guaranteed a start in the race, for which she will carry 50kg.
