Another Group One for Apache

Another Group One for Apache

16/02/2008 5:04 PM

Overwhelming favourite Apache Cat has come home with a wet sail to take out the Group One Timberbrook Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley over Stanzout and Monet Rules.

After jumping well from barrier two, crowd favourite Apache Cat appeared destined to finish outside the places when caught against the rails coming into the straight.

But once clear in the straight Apache Cat unleashed a superb finishing burst to win comfortably.

The result is the seventh win from the last 10 starts for the Greg Eurell-trained Apache Cat - all his losses coming from distances beyond 1200m - with the win being the gelding's 14th overall win and his third Group One victory.

The Colin Davies-trained Stanzout had come third behind Apache Cat in the recent Lightning Stakes and went one better this time around, surviving a protest by fourth-placed Sonic Quest, while Monet Rules held on for third.

Perth sprinter Let Go Thommo finished down the track while Miss Finland beat home one runner after being at the tail during the run.
