Star Sydney filly Samantha Miss will head straight into the Cox Plate if she wins this Saturday's G1 Flight Stakes at Randwick.
Trainer Kris Lees said the filly would skip races such as the Caulfield Guineas and the Thousand Guineas, for which she was a $2.80 favourite, should she be a dominant winner this Saturday.
"I just thought the Thousand Guineas in between just might be a bit much. That's the way we're thinking at the moment," Lees said.
The VRC Oaks (2500m) was also on the agenda for Samantha Miss, who has been unbeaten in three starts this campaign in Sydney.
Samantha Miss, who won the G1 Champagne Stakes in Sydney earlier this year, would be an intriguing runner should she run in the Cox Plate on October 25.
At the weight-for-age conditions, the filly would carry only 47.5kg, and enjoy a massive 10kg weight advantage over current favourite Weekend Hussler. Champion jockey Glen Boss would take the ride.
The great Surround (1976) is the only three-year-old filly to have won the Cox Plate. The last to run in the race was Miss Finland, who ran an unlucky sixth in 2006 after a controversial ride from Lisa Cropp.
Lees believed Samantha Miss, who is out of a Zabeel mare, would have no problem running out a strong 2000m. The only doubt was whether she could do so against the best WFA horses in the country.
"It's a huge leap. I'm mindful of that. It's a big ask, it's only ever been done once before," he said.
"There have been some OK runs. Three-year-old fillies have been competitive before. She gets a 10kg weight relief."
Lees said Samantha Miss would again be the one to beat in the Flight Stakes.
Should the filly win she will become the first since Angst in 1993 to win all four legs of the Princess Series, which also includes the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m), Furious Stakes (1400m) and Tea Rose Stakes (1500m).
Unfortunately for Lees, the AJC and STC this year scrapped a $200,000 bonus for any filly which could win all four races.
