Hayes happy with lightweight hopes

David Hayes believes he has two very strong lightweight hopes that can topple Weekend Hussler in next month's BMW Caulfield Cup.
A week after unearthing the previously unheralded Guillotine in the Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes, Zagreb doubled Hayes' hand in the Caulfield Cup with his victory in the Naturalism Stakes.
Hayes will find out which of the pair will be the stable's top pick in the 2400m feature when the two clash with Weekend Hussler in the G1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on October 4.
Hayes said both gallopers were genuine class horses that 'can compete at a higher level with a lovely weight'.
However, another Hayes-trained stayer Kibbutz will be dodging Weekend Hussler after being well beaten by him in each of his three starts this campaign.
Kibbutz will step out to the 2500m for the first time since winning last year's VRC Derby when he tackles the Bart Cummings on the same day as the Turnbull.
"He's finding that Weekend Hussler, what he does he goes quite fast then he goes faster," Hayes said. "When they go quite fast they're meant to go slower for stayers."
Kibbutz would then run in the Caulfield Cup on his way to the Melbourne Cup, Hayes said.
Hayes will take a more conservative route with The Fuzz, after he ran a disappointing 12th after running a promising second when resuming in a lesser race over 1400m.
"The Fuzz when he starts running badly he runs shockingly. So if he doesn't run well in a handicap he's not going to run well in the major races," he said.
