Hot field for Makybe Diva Stakes

Hot field for Makybe Diva Stakes

The presence of Weekend Hussler has added to the glamour in this Saturday's G2 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.

Even if trainer Ross McDonald decides on Thursday not to run his superstar against budding star Light Fantastic in the $505,000 weight-for-age event, there will be no shortage of top-liners heading into the barriers for the race.

The Makybe Diva Stakes has been earmarked as the comeback race for last spring's major cup winners Efficient and Master O'Reilly.

Also set to run are star stayer Zipping, last year's VRC Derby winner Kibbutz and other cups-bound four-year-olds Dealer Principal, Littorio, Zarita and Largo Lad.

The Bart Cummings-trained Mimi Lebrock was also among the 18 nominations for the Makybe Diva Stakes.

In contrast, Sydney's WFA feature this week, the G2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick, has attracted only seven nominations.

Headlining the list is Doncaster Handicap winner Triple Honour and last year's AJC Derby winner Fiumicino.
