Owner John Messara will be surprised if his gun mare Miss Finland returns to the winner's list in this Saturday's Group One Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley.
Messara said he wanted to see the mare storm home this Saturday at her second run in from a spell.
"If she were to win this Saturday I'd be thrilled," he told Sportal.
"I'm not necessarily expecting that to happen but we just want her finishing off her races well and hopefully when we get to the right distance she'll go bang."
That distance, Messara now believes, is around the mile and not the staying trips David Hayes had her trained for last spring.
With that in mind, Messara said the Group One George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill in April was Miss Finland's aim this autumn, while her major goal in Melbourne was the Futurity Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield.
"We're going to gradually get to that distance. Spacing her runs and keeping her fresh. It might change her form a little bit," he said.
"She's such a great mare and been so successful in the past so we're changing some of the variables and seeing whether it makes a difference."
"The tiara is slightly tilted on her head so we need to straighten it out again."
Regular hoop Craig Williams has been replaced by Steven Arnold aboard Miss Finland this Saturday, a move which Messara said was 'just to change the variables'.
Despite a run of outs which stretched to five following Miss Finland's defeat in the Lightning Stakes when resuming, Messara, who is also the managing director Arrowfield Stud, said it would not affect her value as a broodmare.
"When she goes to stud and the people look at the catalogue they'd look back and say this is the mare that won the Golden Slippers, Oaks, Guineas, Australian Guineas against the boys and so many Group One placings as well," he said.
"It'll look fantastic in the catalogue."
