No Cup penalty for Zagreb

No Cup penalty for Zagreb

22/09/2008 1:41 PM

David Hayes' up and coming star Zagreb has escaped a Caulfield Cup penalty for his win in Saturday's Naturalism Stakes.

Zagreb produced a powerful finish to win the 2000m handicap on Saturday, which gives him a ballot-free entry into the 2400m handicap to be run on October 18.

Despite the strength of the four-year-old's win, RVL Chief Handicapper Greg
Carpenter said he did not feels Zagreb deserved to be allotted more weight than the 50.5kg.

"Zagreb had 3kg less than runner-up Light Vision on Saturday and is already weighted half a kilo above that horse in the Caulfield Cup," Carpenter said.

"He had 3.5kg less than third placed Baughurst in the Naturalism and both horses are on the same weight in the Caulfield Cup. In view of this he's not entitled to a penalty in the Caulfield or Melbourne Cup."

Zagreb is $16.5 in Caulfield Cup markets with Betfair and $15 with other bookmakers. Weekend Hussler and Guillotine are the only are two horses which are ballot-free for the Caulfield Cup.
