Racing Victoria has announced a $23.6 million lift in prizemoney over the next two years.
But the move has not been received well by Country Racing Victoria, which says the rise is not enough.
The changes, which will be introduced in two phases, will see minimum prizemoney for country races lifted from $9,000 to $10,500 and from $12,000 to $13,500 for Thursday and P1 Sunday meetings.
These changes will be in place for the start of the next racing season in August.
The second phase, subject to RV forecasts and the performance of the Tabcorp Joint Venture fund, will kick in next February.
That will see minimum prizemoney for country races lifted from $12,000 to $15,000 for Thursdays and P1 Sundays, while prizemoney for metropolitan midweek/night races will rise to $30,000.
Stakes for Saturday and feature night races will also be lifted to $70,000.
It is the second phase of increases that has raised the ire of CRV, which had argued for a greater slice of the funding pie.
"Whilst we acknowledge that metropolitan prizemoney needs to increase long-term as well, the need to increase prizemoney in country has to be the immediate concern," CRV CEO Scott Whiteman said in a statement.
"We now urge RVL to declare what percentage of the next round of increases will be directed to country racing."
Acting Racing Victoria CEO Bernard Saundry said 'special attention' had been paid to bolster funding for country racing, 'where nearly 60 percent of the additional is being allocated to lift minimums'.
The prizemoney increases have been made possible by Racing Victoria's staff cuts in May, RV said.
