Star Australian sprinter Takeover Target will not run in the Darley July Cup after sustaining an injury at Royal Ascot.

Joe Janiak's brilliant speedster will return to his native Australia after a scan revealed a tear in his near-side suspensory tendon.

Janiak told PA Sport: "He's got a tear in his suspensory. It's not serious – we picked it up pretty early."

Janiak believes the nine-year-old suffered the injury when finishing second in the King's Stand Stakes a week ago – although the horse did go on to run fourth in the Golden Jubilee Stakes on Saturday.

"I'd say it happened in the King's Stand on the hard track," added the trainer.

"He's still in Newmarket, we've got to get him out of quarantine yet."

"He'll be going home in a couple of weeks."

Janiak plans to give the gelding plenty of rest before aiming him at the 2008 Victorian Spring Carnival.

"There's no treatment. We had it scanned and it's just rest he needs now," the trainer continued.

"Hopefully he can continue his career. We picked the injury up at the right time – it's not tragic."

Takeover Target has enjoyed tremendous success on his forays to England over the last three years.

He first took Royal Ascot by storm in 2006 when he won the King's Stand and was third in the Golden Jubilee. He also finished a close seventh in the July Cup.

Takeover Target was second in the Golden Jubilee last year and fourth in the King's Stand four days earlier.

Janiak has not ruled out bringing his pride and joy back to Britain in 2009.

"I'd love to come back here with him," Janiak added.
