Last week it was the cream of Melbourne's crop on show, this Saturday it's Sydney's turn to see its best in the G2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm.
Outstanding grey Racing To Win will start in the red when he runs for the first time since he rounded off a fruitful autumn campaign with victory in the G1 All Aged Stakes (1400m).
A five-time Group One winner, Racing To Win is the class runner in the nine-horse weight-for-age field, which also includes last year's AJC Derby winner Fiumicino, veteran Melbourne miler Valedictum and Sydney mare Gallant Tess.
The only query against Racing To Win, which was competitive against the likes of Weekend Hussler and Casino Prince earlier this year, is his first-up record.
He has a win and two seconds from four fresh runs and returned last campaign from nearly 16 months off with a four-length fifth to Paratroopers in the G2 Expressway Stakes.
Valedictum made an impressive return last start when a fast-finishing third behind Grand Duels in the Auries Star at Flemington a fortnight ago.
The Danny O'Brien trained galloper is a six-time winner over 1400m, won the Sydney way of going last preparation and has the services of Shane Dye.
Gallant Tess has a brilliant first-up record of three wins from five starts but her best form has been on rain-affected going.
Fiumicino, on the Cups trail, should run on late and can claim a minor placing, while Hadaaf and Newton's Rings both drop in weight but rise a few rungs in class.
The McEwen Stakes meeting at Moonee Valley will be conducted on a slow track.
With a penetrometer reading of 5.22, the track was rated a Slow 6 on Friday morning after 12mm of rain in the preceding 24 hours.
"It's not a bog track by any means," Moonee Valley racecourse manager Greg Barker said.
"If we get showers tomorrow it upsets the apple cart again."
The soft track is likely to see Miss Andretti scratched from the McEwen, throwing the race wide open.
Kaphero, Here De Angels, Lucky Secret and Morgan Dollar are all on the next line of betting.
Kaphero, a winner of his past four starts, has won five of seven at the Valley and eight of 16 over 1000m. Another plus is his edge in fitness over his rivals, many of whom are either first or second-up.
Here De Angels flies fresh and at the distance but is an unknown in the wet. Not so the injury-prone Lucky Secret, who is five from five on rain-affected going. His only defeat was at his most recent run last November when he pulled up lame.
An effortless winner when resuming last start in South Australia, Morgan Dollar rises to Group Two company this time. He's won at the Valley and over the distance but has not run in the wet.
Orange County and Dr Nipandtuck are at their best over a little further but can place at good odds.
The race also marks the return of grand stayer Maybe Better, who is likely to get run off his feet at this distance.
