Weekend Hussler does it again

Weekend Hussler does it again

29/03/2008 6:44 PM

Brad Rawiller has edged out his brother's mount at the Group One Randwick Guineas (1600m), helping Weekend Hussler to a hard-fought victory over Triple Honour.

Weekend Hussler ran off the track in the straight somewhat and was forced to come from behind, snatching victory from the Nash Rawiller-ridden Triple Honour through a lunge on the line.

"I thought I had won and Nash said he thought he might have got it," Brad told racenet.com.

"It would have been awesome if it was a dead heat but, in saying that, it would have killed me."

"At the end of the day I'm on the best horse," he said.

Despite racing in a clockwise direction for the first time at Sydney's Randwick course, the Ross McDonald-trained Weekend Hussler demonstrated his superstar qualities as he claimed his fifth Group One victory from 10 starts.

"He'll gain from the experience of that but he's got the job done," said McDonald. "He's a good chaser."

"We'll take him home tomorrow and see how he is and if we come back he'll run in the George Ryder (April 12) and then stay for the Doncaster (on April 26)."

Triple Honour trainer Chris Waller has declared his horse probably has not hit his straps as yet but would still be considered for a run in the Doncaster in a month's time.

Weekend Hussler paid $1.65 for the win over Triple Honour ($21) and third-placed Arlington ($51).

Zarita, meanwhile, produced another strong performance to take out the Group One Schweppes Oaks over 2000 metres at Morphettville.

The Pat Hyland-trained filly was given a superb run by rider Greg Childs, but was still forced to call on all of her reserves to hold off a fast-finishing Moment in Time by a long neck.

Queens of Queens held on for third place, but was never in the running for the win finishing two lengths off the winner.

Zarita jumped a $2.10 favourite and got out to an early two length lead approaching the 250m mark.

Chad Lever on Moment of Time was having none of that, however, and set sail after Zarita, but was never able to hit the front, eventually finishing just short in second place.
