Bulldogs sack Maitua

Bulldogs sack Maitua

The Bulldogs have sacked wayward forward Reni Maitua after he failed to attend training on Monday.

It was the latest indiscretion in a long list of misdemeanours involving the controversial back-rower, leaving the Dogs little option but to tear up his contract.

"Reni was under no illusions as to the standards expected of Bulldogs players and he failed to meet them," chief executive Todd Greenberg said.

"Despite repeated attempts to assist Reni over the years he has left us with no choice but to end his time with the club."

"It is an incredibly disappointing situation for everyone involved."

Should he choose, Maitua has 48 hours in which to appeal the breach notice.

The club has also offered him the use of a counselling service.
