Kite: Bring us in

Kite: Bring us in

06/10/2008 6:45 PM

Clive Churchill medallist Brent Kite has demanded World Cup selectors reward his side for its resounding grand final win, calling on them to pick up to half a dozen of his team-mates.

Kite will be one of the first props picked in Australia's 24-man squad when it's announced on Tuesday after paving the way for the Sea Eagles' record-breaking 40-0 win over Melbourne.

And he believes Brett and Glenn Stewart, Anthony Watmough, Jamie Lyon, Josh Perry and Matt Orford deserve to join him in the green and gold.

"We've had guys on the fringe of the Australian team for a while now so it would be great to see a handful of the guys in there," he said on Monday.

"That's what usually happens (after a grand final win)."

"I thought, not just on last night's performance, Anthony Watmough was just outstanding."

"I'd like to think there might be a smokey in the outside backs."

"Josh Perry, he's got to be, he's the form front-rower. Jamie Lyon and Matt Orford maybe (and) Glenn Stewart."

Kite partied with victorious team-mates until 5am Monday but, as a teetotaler, pulled up none the worse for wear.

The same could not be said for many of his fellow players, who went all night at Manly Leagues Club before continuing well into the next day.

"There's enough emotion going around (without alcohol) to really enjoy last night," Kite explained.

"The club was madness. We just had to really push our way through there and everyone was keen to touch the trophy so it was a bit of a battle."

Meanwhile, Manly patriarch Ken Arthurson has described Sunday night's win as the greatest grand final performance of them all.

"I've seen them all since 1945 and there's been none better," he declared.

"As far as a single performance, I haven't seen any better in a grand final than what they did."

"They were absolutely fantastic."
