Ligament tear in Thurston's ankle

Ligament tear in Thurston's ankle

08/05/2008 8:20 PM

Johnathan Thurston's hopes of lining up for Australia in Friday night's Centenary Test against New Zealand at the SCG have been dealt a blow with scans on his injured ankle revealing a partial ligament tear.

However, according to a media release from the national team on Thursday night, the Cowboys star will receive intensive treatment overnight in a desperate bid to have him line-up against the Kiwis.

If Thurston isn't able to take his place in the Kangaroos' team, Melbourne half-back Cooper Cronk is waiting on standby to fill the void.

The reigning Dally M player of the year will be given until kick-off to prove his fitness.
