Queensland flanker David Croft will be desperate to enjoy the fairytale ending to his time at the Reds that injured team-mate Chris Latham will not get on Saturday against the Waratahs.
The Waratahs can secure a place in the semi-finals with victory while the Reds are out to end their season on a high
Croft, 29, will play his final Super 14 match against his club's fierce southern rival and has a final score to settle with long-time sparring partner Phil Waugh.
The pair have enjoyed one of the game's longest rivalries since taking each other on at junior level.
Croft and Waugh, both Wallabies representatives, will go head to head for the final time at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
Croft said he relished the physical contest with Waugh.
"I love playing against guys like Phil, he's such a competitor, and he's one of the best flankers in the world, hands down," Croft said.
"He's the same age as me, I've played under age football against him, with him, and it's a massive challenge."
"I enjoy the physical battle out there and I think he does as well."
However, Latham will not be alongside Croft and ends his Super 14 career stranded on 99 matches.
He will begin a three-year contract with Worcester next season and has also called time on his national team career.
"The Australian selectors need to move on and obviously there will be people playing in between now and then and I really hope they get good form and they stay there and start performing," Latham said.
"If that's the case, there's not much use wheeling me out again."
