Stormers call up big Ollie

Stormers call up big Ollie

13/05/2008 7:54:05 AM

The Stormers' bid to reach the Super 14 semi-final looks set to be boosted by the arrival of former Leinster prop Ollie le Roux.

Le Roux joined the Stormers' training session on Monday, with the side still trying to ascertain whether or not he will be eligible to play having arrived this late in the competition.

The Stormers have made it clear they want him in their squad but will find out from Sanzar if this is permissible.

"He trained with the team today," Stormers media liaison officer Frikkie Erasmus told club website www.iamastormer.co.za.

"He made a good contribution and with his experience he is valuable. No decision, however, has been made about his inclusion in the squad for Saturday's match."

Erasmus explained that nothing prevents the Stormers from selecting Le Roux for the game against the Lions.

He added: "But if we want to select him for the semi-final - if we make it, obviously - we need to get special permission from Sanzar as the rules stipulate a player needs to play four games in the league phase.

"Everything depends on what's happening later this week whether we will apply or not."
