Acasuso leads seeds through

Jose Acasuso advanced to the quarter-finals of the Dutch Open on Thursday as one of several seeded players to make their mark on the tournament.

One of the top four players in Amersfoort to secure a bye, the second-seeded Spaniard eased through the second round with a 6-3 6-4 triumph over France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

Also booking their place in the last eight were fourth seed Marcel Granollers and fifth seed Albert Montanes, who will be Acasuso's next opponent.

Those results mean the top five seeds have all reached the quarter-finals as No.1 Marc Gicquel and third seed Steve Darcis - the defending champion - won their respective second-round matches on Wednesday.

Acasuso has enjoyed the majority of his success on clay courts, winning all three of his career titles on the surface and compiling a 126-85 win-loss record along the way.

Yet despite his preference for the surface, the 25-year-old has not won a championship since Vina del Mar in January 2006.

Granollers, who won his first ATP title in Houston earlier this year with an upset of James Blake, made his way into the last eight with a 6-4 6-4 win against fellow Spaniard Ivan Navarro.

Granollers will next face compatriot Oscar Hernandez, a 6-3 6-2 winner over Jesse Huta Galung, who was the lone Dutch player remaining in the draw.

Montanes, meanwhile, got past Pablo Cuevas 6-4 6-4 to move to within one victory of his first ATP semi-final appearance since last July in Sopot.
