Elena Dementieva has won through to the final of the German Open after upsetting second seed Ana Ivanovic on Saturday.
Dementieva progressed 6-2 7-5 and will meet Russian Dinara Safina in the final. Safina defeated Belarussian Victoria Azarenka 6-4 6-1 to continue her outstanding run at the event.
Earlier in the week, Safina, chasing her sixth career title and first in 2008, defeated world No.1 Justine Henin and American Serena Williams.
Azarenka's loss to Safina ended a promising tournament for the 18-year-old from Belarus, who upset 15th-seeded Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko and Anna Chakvetadze en route to the semi-finals.
Dementieva, 26, is chasing her 10th title and second of the season, having won at Dubai in March.
She continued to dominate Ivanovic as this was her fourth win in as many meetings against the current world No.2.
Ivanovic was forced to play two matches on Saturday as she had to complete her quarter-final encounter with 10th-seeded Hungarian Agnes Szavay earlier in the day.
The match, which Ivanovic eventually won 3-6 6-4 6-3, had been suspended after the second set on Friday due to darkness.
Safina has split four career matches against Dementieva, suffering a dismal 6-1 6-0 loss during their most recent encounter on carpet in Moscow last year.
She has, however, won both of the clay court matches between the two players.
