Melzer through as rain halts play

Local favourite Jurgen Melzer managed to dodge the rain as the weather forced a premature end to play at the Austrian Open on Thursday.
The sixth seed claimed his place in the quarter-finals with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Leonardo Mayer, but that was the only second-round match to be completed as the wet weather dictated events in Kitzbuhel.
Second seed Jan Hernych was level at one set all with Rainer Schuettler when their match was halted, while seventh seed Juan Martin Del Potro led Argentinean compatriot Sergio Roitman 6-2 2-2.
Nicolas Devilder was also on course for a place in the last eight, holding a 6-4 4-2 advantage over local wildcard Alexander Peya when the clash was stopped.
All three matches are now scheduled to be completed on Friday.
