Mark Viduka
Club: Newcastle
Position: Striker
Comment: Viduka's debut season at Newcastle was dogged with injury. He played 26 games and scored seven goals, as the club struggled at the wrong end of the table. Sam Allardyce, the man who brought the big man to Tyneside, was sacked and it's unclear what plans Kevin Keegan has for Viduka once he gets back to fitness.
Tim Cahill
Club: Everton
Position: Midfielder
Comment: Cahill will again be eager to stay out of the medical room this season. A promising 07/08 campaign was spoiled by another injury and he is likely to miss the first couple of games of the year. His bicycle kick goal against Chelsea was a real highlight and Everton fans would love to see more of him terrorising opposition defences.
Brett Emerton
Club: Blackburn Rovers
Position: Midfielder/Defender
Comment: A tremendous athlete, who has performed consistently at Rovers year after year, Emerton will be a vital cog in Paul Ince's' plans to move his club up from mid-table into contention for a European spot
Mark Schwarzer
Club: Fulham
Position: Goalkeeper
Comment: Schwarzer has found a new home and his set to be first choice for the Cottagers. He is now closer to 40 then 30, but his skills and reflexes are still there. He's a great shot-stopper, and will probably need to be given Fulham is expected to prop up the table fir most of the year.
Brad Jones
Club: Middlesbrough
Position: Goalkeeper
Comment: Looks set to be Boro's No.1 man this season after Schwarzer's departure. It's fitting reward for Jones, who has had the be patient over the past few years. He now has the opportunity to show exactly what he can do and perhaps even stake a claim for Schwarzer's Socceroos spot.
Adrian Leijer
Club: Fulham
Position: Defender
Comment: Leijer is yet to break through for senior game for Fulham, but he would have gained a lot from his first year in English football. Hopefully his time with the Olyroos doesn't affect his status with Roy Hodgson or his prospects of making his debut. A future star, he needs to be exposed to the world's best if he is going to take that next step.
Lucas Neill
Club: West Ham
Position: Defender
Comment: Neill has been criticised in a few quarters for his performances in an underwhelming season from the Hammers. However, he still holds the captains armband and will be hoping he can get backed to the form which had him as one of the most feared players in the EPL in his Blackburn days.
Richard Garcia
Club: Hull
Position: Striker/Midfielder
Comment:: Garcia has been chasing the English football dream for nearly a decade and this season is set to get his shot on the big stage. He played at West Ham, Leyton Orient and Colchester before arriving at the tigers at the start of last season. He played 38 league games and scored the club's goal of the season against Burnley.
Dean Bouzanis
Club: Liverpool.
Position: Goalkeeper.
Comment: Rated as one of the best teenage goalkeepers in the world, the 17-year-old arrived at Anfield last season and was hailed by the reds boss Rafa Benitez as a real coup. Will be exposed to reserve football this season, but his time in the spotlight may not come for a few years yet.
