Miller leaves Roar

Miller leaves Roar

04/12/2009 4:45 PM

Scottish midfielder Charlie Miller is looking for a new home after severing ties with Brisbane Roar when he was told by coach Ange Postecoglou that he wasn't part of the club's plans beyond this season.

Originally named in Postecoglou's extended squad for Sunday night's Round 17 battle with Perth Glory at ME Bank Stadium, Miller will depart the club immediately by mutual consent after being told there'd be no certainty he'd get a regular game in 2010/11.

"We're currently in the process of evaluating our squad for next season and at this point Charlie wasn't guaranteed a place in the squad," Postecoglou said.

"Charlie and I discussed the matter and while we'd hoped he would stay until January, he made it clear it was time he moved on to pursue other opportunities."

"We certainly don't want to stand in the way of a professional footballer earning a living and we agreed to his request."

Postecoglou added: "Charlie's impact on this club, particularly last season, cannot be underestimated."

"He has been a fantastic player and we wish him all the very best for the future."

"However, it is now time for us to focus on the long-term future of the club and we will be doing that over the coming months."

The 33-year-old, who was the Hyundai A-League's foreign player of the year last season and has previously had stints with several clubs including Rangers, Dundee United and SK Brann, played 30 matches for the Roar scoring eight goals but managed to find the net just once this campaign in 11 starts.
