Perth adds global flavour

Perth adds global flavour

Perth Glory looks set to take an all international attack into its second Hyundai A-League Pre-Season Cup clash with the Melbourne Victory on Saturday night.

Argentine Adrian Trinidad will be paired with Ivory Coast-born striker Eugene Dadi for the first time as the Glory look to earn their first win of the pre-season after drawing 1-1 with Newcastle last weekend.

Trinidad may have been short of fitness in that clash, but he still earned and converted a 12th minute penalty, while showing off a number of second-half tricks that led to several attacks on goal.

Dadi wasn't included in the side for the last match after suffering a slight hamstring twinge and a bout of flu the previous week, but the former Notts County forward trained at full pace this week and has been named by coach David Mitchell alongside Trinidad.

"Eugene is a great character and has fitted into the side very quickly," Mitchell said. "He gets on well with the lads and is a quality player who knows where the goals are but can also distribute and bring others into play."

"It will be a good chance for him to get some match fitness ... and I'd expect that he'd play the majority of the game."

"I was (also) impressed with what I saw from Adrian last week and I'd like to see the combination of him up front with Eugene. There will definitely be an international feel in our attack and I'm sure fans will appreciate the flair they bring to that part of the ground," Mitchell said.

Midfielder Nick Rizzo has also been included in the squad while former Socceroo goalkeeper Frank Juric will make his first start for Glory after spending the last 11 seasons playing with various clubs in Germany.

The Victory, meanwhile, will have an international flavour of their own after Melbourne coach Ernie Merrick signaled that Coast Rican pair Carlos Hernandez and Jose Luis Lopez will both start in the clash with Perth.

Merrick said Hernandez had overcome a quadriceps injury while Lopez, who arrived in Melbourne last week, is in good shape ahead of the team's trip to Western Australia.

"We wouldn't have brought either Carlos or Jose Luis into the squad if we didn't think (they were ready)," Merrick said at Melbourne Airport on Friday morning.

"Carlos is completely over his injury and Jose Luis looks like he hasn't stopped playing after a two-week break."

"Carlos has played with Jose Luis for eight years in the national teams and they really know how each other play," Merrick added.

"(And), they're too good to leave on the bench," Merrick said, although he admitted he won't be taking any unnecessary risks with his two Costa Ricans.

The Victory were unlucky to concede two late goals in their clash with Adelaide United last weekend in Launceston but their chances of claiming the points in Perth have been hampered by news that skipper Kevin Muscat won't be playing, as Merrick looks to give the former Socceroo another week to recover from a hamstring injury.
