Roar lose McKay

Roar lose McKay

01/12/2009 6:45 PM

Brisbane midfielder Matt McKay has been ruled out for the next three weeks due to a quadriceps tear.

McKay had originally sustained the injury when he tweaked the muscle against Adelaide United in Round 14.

However, scans have revealed that the 26-year-old had developed a tear meaning he will require a layoff, starting with the Roar's match-up with the Glory in Perth on Sunday.

"We're looking at around the three-week mark for his return," Brisbane head physio Tim Oostenbroek said.

"With the season at the midway point we certainly want to make sure he's up for the end of the season when that comes around."

McKay admitted he was frustrated by the latest setback considering he had returned from a knee injury only five weeks ago.

"I'm desperate to always play," he said.

"We've got this weekend away in Perth and then three games in a week. I was desperate to play those three games and I still might have a chance."

"We hit a bit of form on the weekend and I was glad to be a part of that."

"The people who can come in will do well and hopefully we can continue to get results and push towards the finals."

Meanwhile, Massimo Murdocca (broken leg) and Michael Zullo (groin) are both available to return to the senior team this week.
